Durham - A breast cancer awareness program was held Oct. 14 at the Kappas of Durham Community Center hosted by the Durham Silhouettes of Durham Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
Gracie Rogers, President of the Silhouettes, was on hand along with moderators Lucy Lincoln and Carmen Dorsey. The panelists were Valarie Worthy President of Sisters Network Triangle of NC and Julia Williams-Davis, a member of Sisters Network. Worthy, spoke on the benefits of mammography and her personal experiences with breast cancer. William- Davis,
a 23- year survivor of breast cancer reaches out to help others battle breast cancer. The lighting of the Candle of Hope ceremony was conducted by Betty Jones. This ceremony ignites the hope of breast cancer survivors. A portrait of African women "Spread the word about mammography" owned by Sylvia Black was displayed at the program.
